The milder climate of Texas means that pest season is generally all year long, but Starting in March, nature kind of opens up the gates and lets many of the seasonal pests back into Austin and the surrounding areas.
Mosquito Control – 2019 is expected to be a horrible year due to the expected large number of mosquitoes and the early spring. Most civic mosquito abatement programs focus on standing water, but mosquitoes do not need a pool of water in which to breed. They only need moist earth and right now, Texas as a lot of moist earth.
Flesh Flies – These are those big houseflies that like to invade your meal. The problem with these pests is that every time they land, they throw up their last meal so that they can enjoy it again. If they land on your food, you are eating whatever they ate last – Disgusting! And dangerous. Flies are known to transmit a variety of diseases.
As the weather gets warmer, these pests that emerge early will have more time to multiply and that means by the time summer gets here mosquitos and flesh flies are going to be a force with which to recon. This also applies to other pests, such as yellowjackets, fleas, ticks, and rodents. Squirrels and mice have had more time to forage and that means they have more resources. Their young will leave the nest earlier than normal and they will start breeding early too. By Fall, expect a mountain of rodents.
