Summer is the season for creepy crawlies and Austin has its fair share of them. What is scurrying across the floor when you go to bed? Most likely, it is just a cockroach. Here is our list of this summer’s most uncaptivating pests.
Cockroach – Yes, They Eat Dead Things
Cockroaches tend to stick around when there is food, but younger males will wander off to find new mates. Summer is the perfect time to wander because there are so many cockroaches looking for mates. Expect to encounter a more significant number of cockroaches this summer – even in a clean home.
Silverfish – Kitchen and Bathroom Pests
Silverfish and cockroaches seem to go hand-in-hand. When you find one, you often see the other. Silverfish, however, are a little more dependent upon moist areas. That little fact is why they are found more often than not in kitchens and bathrooms. Like cockroaches, they eat dead things, but may also make a meal out of fresh foods, such as fruits.
Bed Bugs – The Worst of the Lot
If you think that cockroaches are disgusting, then be prepared to discover a new and more disgusting insect. Bed bugs feed on human blood – almost exclusively. Making this is one insect whose evolutionary development coincides with humans. Bed bugs get into our homes because we unwittingly bring them there.
Ants – Texas Is Overrun with Ants
It is not just Texas, as the world has a very rich population of ants. However, around Austin, you are likely to encounter many different types of ants. We all read about fire ants, but what about the others? There are also harvester ants, pharaoh ants, crazy ants, leaf cutter ants, Argentine Ants, and many other various species of ants around the Greater Austin Area.
