Now that spring has officially sprung, the pest calendar is filling up quickly. The warmer weather means more activity from many pests that “chill out” during the colder months of the year. It also means that common and year-round pest populations are exploding. Here is a closer look at April Pests around Austin
This Months Buzz Word Is; Flies
April is a great month if you are a fly. The pupa are turning into maggots and consuming the little things that did not make it through the winter. What that means for us is big house flies and flesh flies are back. Flesh flies are one of the most disgusting insects around. It is the fact that they vomit up whatever their last meal was to eat it again. If they land on your food, you are eating whatever they last ate. The process is also a gateway to acquired diseases such as worms, bacterial infections, and virus.
With the warmer weather Fire Ants are on the move and looking for new places to call home. This means that lawns and landscaped areas are prime target for new colonies of fire ants. Other ant species are also waking up and looking for food. The long cold depletes food supplies quickly and you can expect more encounters with foraging ants.
Birds, bats, and other organisms that migrate are on the move and they are looking for hospitable housing and food. Birds, are a big pest problem and when there is not seed-food around they will eat vegetation. Bats are another problem and as the colonies fly up from Mexico and the tropics they will need places to roost. This is not so bad so long as it is not in your home or your chimney. Bats play a huge role in controlling night flying insects such as moths and some beetles.
Year-round pests are also active so keep your eye out for bed bugs and fleas, both of which will happily take up living with you. There is no need to live with pest. Just give our professionals a call and put our expertise to work for you.
