Summer is the height of pest invasions. The warmer weather and all the extra resources help pest populations to swell and this means more infestations for homes and businesses. In fact, this is the time of year when we find multiple pest issues when we do a service call. What’s bugging you?
Insect Pests of Summer
Ants – Indoors you might notice a decrease in ants, but that is only because outdoors there are so many food options. Ants are still a likely indoor pest problem and many come indoors looking for water.
Cockroaches – Cockroaches are almost always an indoor pest problem. As their populations grow, they expand and travel in search of greater food supplies. A roving cockroach is likely to stop and explore homes and businesses in hopes of finding food. They will enjoy pet food and small bits of food that we drop. Even a potato chip is a large meal for a hungry cockroach.
Wasps – Summer is the season of the wasp and by the time summer arrives many wasp colonies house wasps by the thousands. That’s a lot of hungry wasps. Wasps also tend to get more aggressive – if that is possible – as we get farther into summer. This is because they are producing eggs and rearing young. Social wasps are aggressive while solitary wasps, such as the mud daubers tend to be almost non-aggressive. Some yellowjacket colonies and expand during a single summer to reach 10,000 plus wasps.
